Habanero Sombrero

A Website Redesign

Habanero Sombrero

This is a website redesign for Habanero Sombrero. I changed all the colours from the website (black and white) to a more colourful and vibrant theme because I want to show the Mexican culture.

I made the header and footer shaped like a half taco and the body that contains the menu is also shaped like it to maintain the consistency. To add more texture on the background, I added a paper on it because tacos are usually served/ wrapped with it!

There are also papel picado or Mexican flags on it just to add more character. Spices, sauces or condiments are also important in this kind of food so I decided to add a fun looking background on it just to make it more fun and lively. Overall, there is a fiesta vibes on this site redesign.

New Interactive Infographic Studio

A Interactive Infographic Website

The goal of this website is to make an interactive information visualization that is easy to understand and enhance user experience and engagement. This studio project pushed my limits and tested my skills. Despite the difficulties that arose, I persevered and worked tirelessly to overcome the obstacles.

I used Three.js to import my 3D room for the landing page. The first page is a city infographic, the second page is a vehicle fun fact and the last page is an island exploration.

In the end, I was able to exceed my expectations and successfully finish this project. The feeling of pride and satisfaction that came with completing the project was really indescribable.Β

The Projector App

React Native Mobile App

The Projector App

This is a mobile application for The Projector, a newspaper run by Creative Communications students and funded by the Red River College Students’ Association; it was selected by The Projector staff to be the official app for the newspaper.

We used the Expo framework which lets us generate real iOS and Android smartphone apps using JavaScript and React.

This project is a collaborative work between me and Sarah Stewart. We divided the work equally and we made sure to match the branding of the association which resulted to a wonderful and user friendly mobile application. This mobile application is both styled in iOS (me) and Android (Sarah) to give more options for all prospective users.Β

Tourism and travel website

Tourism and travel website

Hofni’s African Tours

Creating an enriching user experience in the digital realm specifically in the tourism and travel website is a craft that merges both technical acumen and an eye for aesthetics. During my work placement, I had the profound opportunity to journey through this craft by designing and developing a website for a client whose operations dwell in the tourism and travel industry. The project was a canvas that allowed me to not just showcase my skills, but also paint a digital narrative for the client’s tour packages targeted toward African destinations.

The primary phase of this project was entangled in conceptualizing a layout that would seamlessly guide potential customers through the varied tour packages, while also giving them a glimpse of the vibrant culture that awaits them. Designing the user interface was akin to laying down the first strokes on this canvas, where each icon, each button, and each navigation menu was placed with thought and intent. The objective was to create a pathway that would lead visitors from curiosity to interest, and eventually to a call to action.

Executing the design was the next chapter of this endeavor. Employing the company’s website builder, the task at hand was to transpose the design blueprint into a functional website. Each day was a fusion of solving puzzles as I delved into making the website both aesthetically pleasing and technically sound. The website builder was a tool, but the artistry lay in how I could maneuver it to reflect the design that was envisioned.

The color palette for the website was not just a random selection from a color wheel. It was inspired by the rich and lively hues synonymous with African culture. The colors were a silent yet eloquent narrator of what the destination held for the tourists. Every color chosen was aimed at making the website not just a portal of information, but a visual appetizer for the cultural feast that awaited the potential traveler.

Throughout this expedition of development, the compass of guidance was provided by the design lead. Their feedback was not merely corrections or approvals, but a gateway to view the project from a different lens, to explore avenues that could elevate the user experience to a pinnacle. Every suggestion was a learning endeavor, a chance to refine and re-calibrate the digital narrative that was being crafted. This iterative process of feedback and refinement honed my skills and the website’s design in a symbiotic rhythm.

As the website morphed from a concept to a digital reality, each day was a testimony to the amalgamation of technology and creativity. The user interface became a bridge between the client’s offerings and the customer’s aspirations.

Looking back, the project was not just a deliverable completed in my work journey, but a monumental learning expedition. The final design and development of the website were not just a source of pride but a narrative of the cumulative effort, learning, and collaboration that it encapsulated. The feedback from the design lead, the challenge of technical roadblocks, and the satisfaction of overcoming them were the threads that weaved this enriching experience.

In conclusion, the essence of this project extended beyond just a task completed during my work placement. It was a depiction of the potential that lies in harmonizing technical skills with creative envisioning to create a digital doorway that invites and entices potential customers. The journey from conceptualization to execution was a lesson in patience, resilience, and the beauty of collaborative effort, leaving me with a sense of accomplishment and a portfolio piece that speaks volumes of the practical skills acquired and applied in a real-world scenario.

Toy Xchange: A UX Study

Mobile App Concept

Toy Xchange: A UX Study

Nowadays, people are heavy users of buy, sell, and trade platforms but not every software application is perfect. Users main concerns are mainly payment security and product authenticity.

Toy Xchange is an essential application for multiple users because it will give them the security and safety they need. It will also have a wider choice of items, a friendly space to chat, a secured payment transaction and many more.

There are different competitors already available in the market. Those apps already have security features, but with Toy Xchange, we will implement a third verification feature that is not automated.

To become a member of the app, we will implement a 24-hour window period for the user signup verification process where they can upload real IDs and have an actual person review them.

Isla: Story Driven Website

An Animated Website

Isla: Story Driven Website

I have chosen the adventure/ travel theme because I want my animations to be more on transportation (plane and cars). It is a nice graphic to loop and to show continuity.

I named my website as Isla because it’s like an island where you can explore different activities or adventure.

Animating isometric illustrations might be hard that’s why I recreated and tweaked the vectors that I got from freepik so I will have the flexibility on moving the elements/graphics.

Real Time Population Counter

PHP Server Sent Events

World Population Real Time Counter (API)

This World Population Real Time App pushes updates by monitoring an API for changes. PHP is being used to read the API and to detect a change and generate JSON to send down to the Javascript.

This is a server-sent events which excel at telling a website when there’s an update, using a one-way channel the webpage has initiated with the server, but AJAX form submissions can also be used.

Anino: Web Redesign

A Website Redesign

Anino: Designed and Developed

The website that I chose is Anino. Anino is a Filipino word that means shadow. This is the reason why I chose a duotone color palette because it somehow represents a shadow. I also noticed that their logo represents a simple shape but conveys the brand well.

The main story that I want to convey with my design that it is a company that are open for collaborations and new ideas. I showed different illustrations to show that the company is creative, flexible, and innovative for new mobile games.

Sportify: Sports Social Media

Sports Social Media App

Sportify: A Fort for Sports

The realm of digital technology intertwines seamlessly with myriad facets of our lives, amplifying our interactions and experiences manifold. In the realm of sports, a digital platform not only amplifies the joy and enthusiasm shared by fans but can also become a cornerstone community for sports aficionados worldwide. Reflecting this ethos, my recent project revolved around sculpting a PHP Templated Site, which I had the privilege to rebrand and code employing PHP.

As a seedling idea, the website named ‘Sportify’ blossomed with a simple, yet powerful premise: Sports are the strings that weave people together, manifesting a sense of belonging by nurturing connections rooted in shared support for teams or individuals.

Envisioning Sportify as the quintessential hub for all sports-related engagements, the project entailed a journey of meticulously coding and fashioning a platform that transcends the traditional borders of digital sports platforms. Sportify opens a digital window to a rich world where the latest updates from the sports arena meet lively discussions from a warm, engaging community. This seamless blend ensures users stay abreast of unfolding sports narratives from trusted news outlets while partaking in vibrant conversations within the Sportify community, all under one digital roof.

The underpinning architecture of Sportify, coded in PHP, embraced flexibility and adaptability, mirroring the dynamic spirit of sports. The customization afforded by PHP was a boon, lending the site a structure where rebranding was not a mere cosmetic change, but a deep-seated evolution that echoed in every line of code.

One of the distinguishing aspects of Sportify is its suite of in-game features, designed meticulously to enhance user engagement during live sporting events. This facet of the project was a canvas where coding met creativity, each feature coded was aimed at fostering a rich user experience, making every game event a memory shared with a global community.

The essence of the elevator pitch for Sportify revolves around the motif of community, sports, and digital synergy. Sportify is envisioned not as a mere website but as a thriving digital ecosystem where every sports enthusiast finds a voice, a community, and a daily dose of sporting action. The idea was to eliminate the need for users to hop between platforms to satisfy their sporting appetite. With Sportify, every update, every discussion, and every game feature is but a click away, all housed within a PHP templated site that is as robust as the sporting spirit it aims to foster.

In conclusion, the Sportify project was a voyage through the endless possibilities that PHP brings to the table, coupled with a vision to create a digital haven for sports enthusiasts. The rebranding and coding journey was imbued with challenges that tested and honed my technical acumen, delivering a final product that stands as a testament to the beauty of sports and community, encapsulated within a digital framework. The narrative of Sportify is a celebration of sports, community, and the potential that lies in a well-coded, well-envisioned digital platform, offering a unique rendezvous point for sports enthusiasts to come together, discuss, and enjoy the sporting world.
